Oklahoma City Zoom Whitening

For patients who want dramatically whiter teeth in the shortest time frame available, Oklahoma City dentist Dr. Michael Forth offers Zoom Whitening treatments in his office.

Zoom Whitening PrepZoom Whitening is the trade name for a proprietary laser tooth whitening system developed by Discus Dental. Clients have a special peroxide gel applied to their teeth. Then a special ultraviolet light is used to activate the gel, helping it penetrate the outer dentin to oxidize and whiten the deep stains on the interior of the teeth. In most cases, the treatment takes place in a single, two-hour office visit. Take-home trays are given for follow-up treatments to maximize the whitening process, but clients can expect to see dramatically whiter teeth after just the two-hour office treatment.

Zoom Whitening step by step

Zoom Whitening Gel AppliedWhen a client comes in for a Zoom Whitening treatment, a dental assistant will first prepare his or her mouth before applying the whitening gel. The gel is very strong and can irritate the lips and gums, so special retractors are placed that hold the client's lips away from the teeth. A napkin is also placed in the mouth to prevent the Zoom Whitening gel from coming into contact with the face or gums. Next the client's gums are coated with a special protective substance to prevent the whitening gel from irritating them.

Then the Zoom Whitening gel is applied to the client's teeth. This powerful peroxide gel is designed to work with the special Zoom Whitening light to speed the bleaching process.

Zoom Whitening LightWhen the gel is completely applied, the Zoom Whitening light is positioned to shine on the client's mouth for a specified treatment interval. During this time, the patient can read, listen to music or just relax. We provide a number of entertainment options for our clients to help them pass the time.

Depending on the level of staining and discoloration, several sessions with the light may be needed to achieve desired results. This will most often still be done in one visit, with short breaks in between. Once the sessions are over, you'll have a brand new whiter smile to go home with.

Is Zoom Whitening more effective?

Zoom Whitening ResultsMany clients wonder whether Zoom Whitening is more powerful than the take-home whitening systems we provide. The short answer is no. The main advantage of Zoom Whitening is that it offers dramatic results in a short period of time. However, if you are not comfortable with sitting for the entire Zoom Whitening process at once, you can achieve the same results with a take-home system. The disadvantages of a take-home system are that it will take a longer time (often weeks) of careful, consistent use to achieve the same results. Zoom Whitening, as with any dentist-directed whitening procedure, is much more effective than the over-the-counter whitening products sold in department stores and pharmacies. The strong peroxide gels used by dentists are not available over-the-counter and they are usually what's required to see permanent, lasting tooth whitening.
