Oklahoma City Lumineers®

Many patients in Oklahoma City are looking for the great white smile offered by Lumineers. But did you know that Lumineers is just a brand name for one type of porcelain veneer? Cosmetic dentist Dr. Michael Forth, the only AACD-accredited dentist in western Oklahoma, has worked with all kinds of different ceramics and can tell you whether Lumineers or another ceramic veneer would be right for your case.

If you want a truly dazzling natural smile, be sure to work with a cosmetic dentist who has experience and skill with a number of different veneers. Each has specific qualities and strengths that make them right for some cases, but not the best choice for others.

How Lumineers are different

Example of the thickness of LumineersLumineers have been marketed to both dentists and the general public as requiring no preparation (shaving) of the tooth prior to having the veneer bonded to the tooth. This is because Lumineers are thinner than many other porcelain veneers—they are about a third of a millimeter thick, compared to about half a millimeter.

However, Lumineers are not the only ultra-thin veneer on the market. There are others which may be better suited to particular cases.

Lumineers: Pros and cons

Advantages of Lumineers:

  • Made from a very strong ceramic. These veneers are very resistant to breaking, chipping, or other problems.
  • Thinner than many other porcelain veneers. May require no tooth preparation for placement.

Disadvantages of Lumineers:

  • Thinner porcelain may not hide underlying imperfections as well as thicker veneers.
  • Limitations with respect to customized shading and shape.

Who should get Lumineers?

For all patients seeking a smile makeover with veneers, Dr. Forth spends a great deal of time with each patient up front, discussing their personal preferences and how they want their smile to look. He can then recommend whether Lumineers will be the best veneer to give them the smile they want or whether another type of veneer would be better. He has years of experience with many different types of ceramic veneers and is comfortable working with all of them.

For all patients, no veneer is bonded permanently to the teeth unless the client is completely satisfied with how they look.
